FBX is the Sole Representative Agent of FAGRO in Spain and China. From our new facilities in Accra we aim to provide our close cooperation to farmers in particular and to ghanaian citizens in general to make agriculture and livestock more efficient and the ghanaians life more comfortable. Agriculture is the dominant sector in Ghana’s economy. The sector plays a critical role in reducing poverty and achieving economic growth. It employs about 60% of the labour force and contributes about 40% to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It also accounts for over 57% of the country’s foreign exchange earnings. The sector which is divided into five sub-sectors (Cocoa, Crops other than Cocoa, Livestock, Fisheries and Forestry) is bedeviled with a lot of challenges in spite of its economic contributions to national development and growth. Low productivity level, little or no access to financial resources and modern technologies as well as high post-harvest losses are some of the major challenges the sector faces. This makes the capacity of agriculture to safeguard income, employment and food supply, and in turn reduce poverty among the rural population currently falls short of its potential. |
However, agriculture is a central objective of Ghana’s Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy to enable the country to become a middle income country by 2015.The strategy can only be achieved through a modernized, vibrant and competitive agricultural industry. This is what the National Food and Agric Show (FAGRO) seeks to achieve. As an annual show FAGRO provides the platform for farmers and participants to learn modern techniques of Agricultural marketing, the appropriate and modern use of farming technology and also farm business management such as laws and policies, accessing land, water, effective production services, resource management and conversation practices. |
